The cables that connect the speakers and controller to your subwoofer are something of a surprise. Instead of using the regular audio cables, Razer has used flat CAT5 cables to connect your satellites to your subwoofer. These cables look exactly like those you use to connect your router to your system. Each cable has a clearly mentioned warning not to try and use these cables for Ethernet. I sadly wasn’t brave enough to try and see what happens. Similarly the control pod has a VGA connector, which is essentially what a monitor cable looks like. Of course even this cable has a warning on it so that you don’t connect it to your monitor or graphics port.

Installing the speaker system was as easy as pie. Just connect the cables between the satellites and the woofer, hook up the control pod, power and connect it to your PC or Laptop and you’re all set. There are instructions on the back of the subwoofer right above the ports saying what you are supposed to hook up where. Your next objective would be to place the speakers themselves. Since the speakers have a flat bottom and are omni directional all you have to do is place them where ever you feel like, there is no need to try and find the “right spot” from where the sound will be best. The speakers provide excellent sound quality however they are placed. Once you power up the set, the control pod will light up dimly, touch the Razer logo in the center of the pod to activate it and you are ready to be blown away.

For the price that these speakers sell for, it would be a shame of they only had good looks and failed in performance. But the Mako doesn’t disappoint us at all and provides the best audio quality in the 2.1 segment. The omni-directional speakers are a treat to the ears providing crisp and clear sounds even at very high levels, though also strong enough to make the entire room rumble and vibrate. The speakers have been designed by THX and offer a lot of innovations which have never been seen before. Placing the speakers on a flat surface is a must for best performance since the speakers fire downwards and hence the flat surface spreads the sound in every direction. Normal speakers are left way behind in performance by just this one single feat. Razer has done their homework on these speakers and the resulting quality really shows that. Playing Call of Duty 4 on these speakers at a nice volume level really brings the game alive. The gunfire and grenade noises are extremely crisp and the music tones play better than anything I have ever heard. Even at very high volumes the sound quality remains brilliant, although you room might become a mess with all the rumbling.
